An iconic paper cut-out collage created by famous French artist, Henri Matisse, goes on show at Tate Liverpool from today. ‘The Snail’ is considered to be one of Matisse’s finest creations and is open for vewing, along with a number of his works, until May 2016. In parallel with the exhibition, ‘An Imagined Museum’, on the ground floor at Tate Liverpool is an exhibition of works by the grand Master, Henri Matisse, ( 31 December 1869 – 3 November 1954). Matisse was a French artist, known for both his use of colour and his fluid and original draughtsmanship. Kate O’Donoghue, Curatorial Trainee at National Museums Liverpool, said: “Henri Matisse is a world-famous artist and this exhibition includes many of his iconic images, such as The Snail and the Blue Nudes. We are proud that Matisse is coming to Wirral for the first time in over ten years and during Wirral Borough of Culture Year”. On the Snail Trail Tate Liverpool are currently showing Words to know by Heart: Matisse in Focus, featuring one of the most iconic works ever made by Henri Matisse – The Snail (1953).
